The CITB SEATS course is designed for site supervisors and managers to introduce them to environmental issues on construction sites. It provides essential environmental knowledge required by major contractors and covers aspects of the new HS&E Touch Screen Test.

The course updates candidates on environmental and sustainability topics, relevant legislation, and industry best practices through discussions, case studies, syndicate exercises, and classroom tutorials.

This course covers:

  • Best practice techniques for sustainable construction and legal compliance
  • The environment and why it matters
  • Environmental management systems
  • Waste management
  • How to be a good neighbour: statutory nuisance, communication
  • Archaeology and heritage
  • Energy and resources
  • Being a responsible contractor.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. This one-day course is intended for those who are operating at supervisor level.

The course will be delivered in English. Delegates must be able to read, write and communicate verbally in English.

Delegates will be continuously assessed during the course in preparation for the final examination. Delegates will be assessed via written and practical assessments. Successful completion of the course requires the delegate to pass an exam paper at the end of the course. The final exam consists of a combination of multiple choice questions and multi-response/ short written answer questions.The delegate will need to achieve 80% pass mark in the final exam in order to successfully complete the SEATS course.

Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will receive a CITB accredited certificate which is valid for five years. The refresher course needs to be undertaken before its expiry date.

This course meets the basic environmental knowledge that the sub-contract chain is required to prove to major contractors. It also covers the environmental aspects of the CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test.

A high proportion of discussions, best practice sharing, syndicate exercises and case studies will be supplemented with classroom-based tutorials.

Delegates will be continuously assessed during the course in preparation for the final examination. Delegates will be assessed via written and practical assessments. Successful candidates will be awarded with a certificate and be able to apply for a labourer card.
