The CITB Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) course provides essential training for site supervisors, covering health and safety regulations, risk assessment, and effective site management. Over two days, participants will learn how to implement safe working practices, lead teams responsibly, and ensure compliance with legal requirements. This course is ideal for those looking to step into or enhance their supervisory role in the construction industry.

This course is short but informative and engages the delegate in a wide variety of methods. Delegates will find themselves working independently and in a team as well as working through some practical tasks.

Content for the SSSTS includes:

  • Legalisation, ACOP updates with discussions on impact and practical aspects of compliance
  • Overview of proposed/ impending legalisation
  • Accidents statistics, costs, causes, management responsibilities/methods in prevention
  • HSE’s current focus on construction activities
  • Safety management systems, policies, plans and performance measuring
  • Management of contractors
  • Communication and consultation aspects, effective use of toolbox talks and site inductions
  • Behavioural science includes awareness of human error, stress and prevention
  • Prevention of accidents
  • Motivating safety behaviour
  • Planning for health & safety in relation to fire safety, working at height, manual handling, and movement of people within the context of a project

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. The course will be delivered in English. Delegates must be able to read, write and communicate verbally in English.

The SSSTS course is a combination of classroom-based theory and tutorials, candidates will continually be assessed throughout the course. Successful completion of the course requires the delegate to pass an exam paper at the end of the course.

The final exam consists of a combination of multiple choice questions and multi-response/ short written answer questions.The delegate will need to achieve 80% pass mark in the final exam in order to successfully complete the SSSTS course.

 

Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will receive a CITB accredited certificate which is valid for five years. The refresher course needs to be undertaken before its expiry date.

  • Understand the problems of the industry
  • Have an understanding of how health and safety law is structured
  • Identify how their supervisory role fits in with the manager in controlling the site safely
  • Carry out risk assessments and understand the need for method statements
  • Carry out site inductions, toolbox talks and method statement briefings
  • Understand what is meant by proactive and reactive monitoring and appreciate their need.
